Project Monty
A visual novel. This is a personal project that was started as part of my final two modules of my degree. This is currently in development. This game is currently being made in Renpy, but I am planning to move into Unreal 5 and Twine to test my skills further. All in all, I plan on developing this game, but also using it to test my skills in various areas of development and various engines.
Set in a cat café in a fictional town in Japan called Kaijōyama, half nekogami yokai twins Amari and Fabian must save their café Whiskers & Coffee from the politician turned businessman Haruto Tanaka. Haruto plans to take over the café and turn into a dog café called Inu Haven.
There is a secret to these twins that no one knows, they can understand and talk to cats.

Cast of Characters

Amari Kitagawa: The female protagonist, co-owner of Whiskers & Coffee, and twin sister of Fabian.

Fabian Meijer: The male protagonist, co-owner of Whiskers & Coffee, and twin brother of Amari.

Kai Kobayashi: A nekogami yokai disguised as a human high school teacher.

Julia Hoekstra: The best friend of the twins and also co-owner of Whiskers & Coffee.

Kenji Kimura: A wannabe goofy police detective who is also a kitsune yokai.

Emi Kimura: A shy aspiring medical student who is also a kitsune yokai. She is also Kenji's twin sister.

Kiyana Mabaso: An upbeat travel and food blogger from South Africa.

Haruto Tanaka: A politician turned businessman who is growing his own dog café chain. He is also possessed by an inugamu yokai.
The Cats

Menno: A black and white cat who belongs to Amari and Fabian. He see sees himself as the king of the café.

Fenris: A shy black and white cat who also belongs to Amari and Fabian. He prefers to avoid people.

Pixie: A timid black and white cat., who is Fenris' litter mate. She likes to baby him and look after him.

Monty: A tabby stray who was rescued and adopted by Fenris. He lives with Amari and Fabian. He loves attention from café guests.

What will I do after I finish writing the game and writing the code?
After I have finished writing the games narrative and implementing the code, I will source out an artist and a musician to create the art and music for the game.

There is a vertical slice made on Renpy and I am currently in the process of bringing it to itch.io.
